Aberdeen Whisky SHop

a SpiritedStory

We were tasked with rebranding the shop and supporting the business with marketing material and other content such as videos and labels for special releases.

Chapter 1: Visual Identity

Aberdeen Whisky shop has been sharing their love of independent spirits with the city of Aberdeen and beyond for over 15 years. The shop has grown both in its scale and its reputation among loyal locals and some of Scotlands most revered bottlers and distilleries. We were tasked with rebranding the business to reflect this.

Exploration

Marking a new era for Aberdeen Whisky Shop

The business had matured over the years. At the time of the rebrand, Nick - the owner - had purchased a new premesis and was planning a tasting room at the back of the shop. The time felt right to relaunch the brand that reflected this. From being a passion project, the business now reflected a group of people who had a deep respect and care about the process that makes beautiful and the complex flavours that ought to be savoured and enjoyed with friends.

The original logo a rugged and off-kilter stamp had a place in the hearts of the shops locals and so we saught to look at what we could preserve and what we could reimagine in line with the current place the shop was in.

Logo

Anatomy of a logo

A MArk of intention

As we didn’t want to stray too far from familar form factor of the origial logo we carefully resculpted it - exploring new type faces and cleaner shapes. Rugged messy lines were replaced with crisp lines that continued through the letters and felt more tight and balanced. Sharp lettering flowed through the steel bands that now held the logo together.

The old logo had also been rotated giving it a slightly edgy feel but now the owner, Nick, wanted to communicate the more matured and established nature of the business. Repositioning the logo straight horizontally instantly made it feel stable and reliable.

We added an established date to convey a sense of the journey and connect it to those aged, beloved casks that inspired the original logo.

Chapter II: Videography & Photography

As part of our work with Aberdeen Whisky Shop, we've been privaleged to produce a number of photos and videos to help communicate the cosiness of their tasting room, their love for Aberdeen and their absolute passion the team share about independent spirits.

Chapter III: Labels & Packaging

We designed a number of bespoke labels for Whisky bottles and gift boxes, which matched the love for the local area and the care and dedication put in by each distiller and bottler in this incredible industry.

Graphic Design & Communication

Distilled creativity

As part of our partnering with Aberdeen Whisky Shop, we supported the business with design work on everything from social media content, ads and physical flyers to whisky labels and packaging.

Partnering with the team allowed us to create bespoke content that was consistent with other comms material while at the same time, we could pivot and evolve our content with lessons we'd learned as we grew and explored new markets.

We also helped create the fun sub-label 'tasty drams' a brand for their own miniatures collections that focused on the fun of trying new flavours with friends.
